Actress Angela Pleasence, best known for her memorable roles in Coronation Street, Doctor Who, and Whitechapel, has passed away at the age of 84.
Her management agency announced the sad news on Instagram, paying tribute to a diverse and celebrated acting career that spanned more than 60 years. “While never defined by any one genre, her contribution to the British industry remains a distinctive and much-admired part of her legacy. Our thoughts are with her family at this very sad time,” her agency stated.

A Prolific Television Career
From her early guest role as Monica Sutton on Coronation Street in 1968 to her appearances in critically acclaimed modern dramas, Pleasence was an absolute staple of British television.

Memorable Film and Horror Roles
Pleasence didn’t just conquer the small screen; she had a distinct and highly respected presence in film, particularly within the 1970s British horror genre. She starred in chilling films like From Beyond the Grave, The Godsend, and Symptoms. She later parodied these iconic horror roles as a guest on the BBC comedy series Dr. Terrible’s House of Terrible.
Beyond horror, she played the Ghost of Christmas Past in the 1984 television film adaptation of A Christmas Carol and even landed a role in Martin Scorsese’s 2002 Hollywood epic, Gangs of New York.
A Family Legacy of Acting
Acting was deeply ingrained in her family’s DNA. Angela was the daughter of the legendary actor Donald Pleasence, who passed away in 1995 at the age of 75.
Her father was internationally renowned for playing deeply iconic characters across generations of cinema, including the Bond villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld in You Only Live Twice and the relentless Dr. Samuel Loomis in the Halloween slasher franchise.
