Forget the safe pop ballads. The United Kingdom is sending a musical mad scientist to Vienna.

The BBC has officially announced that Look Mum No Computer, the electronic artist and inventor famous for building organs out of Furbys and synthesizers out of bicycles, will represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026.

The Kent-based artist, whose real name is Sam Battle, is a significant departure from recent UK entries. Known for his chaotic creativity and engineering prowess, he holds a Guinness World Record for building the world’s largest drone synthesizer.

Who is Look Mum No Computer?

Before becoming a YouTube sensation with over 1.4 million followers, Battle was the frontman of the indie rock band Zibra. However, he is best known today as an “inventor of unique musical machines.”

He even runs his own museum in Ramsgate, This Museum Is (Not) Obsolete, which houses experimental and vintage technology—including a Game Boy programmed to play a 100-year-old church organ.

“I find it completely bonkers to be jumping on this wonderful and wild journey,” Battle said. “I have always been a massive Eurovision fan… getting to join that legacy and fly the flag for the UK is an absolute honour.”

The Song: A “Big Anthem”

The track title remains a secret for now. However, BBC Radio 2 DJ Scott Mills has heard it. His description suggests a genre-bending banger.

Mills described the song as a blender mix of:

  • Basshunter’s “Now You’re Gone”
  • Blur’s “Parklife”
  • Pet Shop Boys’ “West End Girls”
  • The synths of The Human League
  • A sprinkle of Eurovision legend Verka Serduchka
  • A tiny bit of the Sex Pistols

A Bold Change in Strategy

The selection marks a shift in strategy for the BBC after mixed results in recent years. Following Sam Ryder’s heroic 2nd place in 2022, the UK has struggled to reach the left side of the leaderboard, with Olly Alexander finishing 18th in 2024 and country duo Remember Monday finishing 19th last year.

Kalpna Patel-Knight, the BBC’s head of entertainment, called Battle a “bold and brave choice” who embodies “creativity, ambition, and a distinctly British wit.”

The Road to Vienna

The 70th Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Vienna, following Austrian singer JJ’s victory in Switzerland last year.

The Grand Final is set for May 16, 2026. While the contest faces some controversy this year with five countries withdrawing, the UK is hoping their “eccentric oddball” entry will electrify the voting public and bring the trophy home.
