British sensation Sky Brown has reclaimed her throne as the women’s park skateboarding world champion. The 17-year-old secured the gold in Sao Paulo, Brazil, marking her second world title following her historic win in Sharjah, UAE, back in 2023.

The victory, achieved on International Women’s Day, further cements Brown’s status as one of the most dominant forces in the sport as she continues her climb toward the top of the global rankings.

A Rain-Shortened Victory in Sao Paulo

The competition in Brazil faced significant challenges due to “adverse weather conditions.” After persistent rainfall made the bowl unsafe for skaters, officials were forced to halt the finals after only two of the planned four runs.

Brown, who was leading with a commanding score of 88.16, was officially declared the winner.

  • Gold: Sky Brown (Great Britain) – 88.16
  • Silver: Mizuho Hasegawa (Japan) – 84.36
  • Bronze: Minna Stess (USA) – 83.90

Despite her excitement, Brown admitted she was “bummed” that the skaters couldn’t finish the full final, but expressed immense gratitude for the win. In a poignant moment during her victory speech, she also touched on global events, stating, “There are bigger things and I just pray for peace for the world.”

A Career of Record-Breaking Achievements

Sky Brown’s trajectory has been nothing short of legendary. From her debut at age eight to becoming a household name, her resume is packed with “youngest-ever” milestones:

  • Olympic Success: At 13, she became Team GB’s youngest Olympic medalist with a bronze at Tokyo 2020. She followed this with another bronze at the Paris 2024 Games, competing just a week after a dislocated shoulder.
  • World Rankings: Following her win in Brazil, Brown is currently ranked 7th in the world, while her close rival and friend, 15-year-old Mizuho Hasegawa, holds the top spot.
  • Global Icon: Born in Japan to a British father and Japanese mother, Brown elected to compete for Great Britain in 2018, quickly becoming the face of the sport’s inclusion in the Olympic program.

As skateboarding continues to grow within the World Skate framework, Brown remains a vocal advocate for the progression of the women’s “park” and “street” categories.
